Model turned actor Muzamil Ibrahim is currently on a new high, with his role as a sniper in Hotstar series Special Ops getting rave reviews. Having proved his mettle as an actor, this Kashmiri boy says that there are no short cuts to hard work.
BollywoodWrap : Tell us Something about your journey.
Muzamil Ibrahim : I started as a model. When I won Galdrags Manhunt, I was 18 yr old and in 1st year college back in 2003, and became the youngest Gladrags winner in its history. It’s been no looking back since then.
My music videos ‘Pardesia’ and the ones by Lucky Ali which came the same year became a nationwide hit and thus skyrocketed my career. Movie offers started pouring in and I debuted in the film Dhokha by Pooja Bhatt when I was 21 yr old and in my 4th year of college.

BollywoodWrap : Who is your inspiration ?
Muzamil Ibrahim : My mom inspired me a lot as a person. She has brought us up with a lot of struggle. There is years of struggle behind her, a lot of courage. Never have I encountered a more courageous woman in my life ever. She’s a true brave heart.
BollywoodWrap : How did you land the role of a sniper in Special Ops?
Muzamil Ibrahim : I was auditioning a lot and sometimes I ended up getting the part but I didn’t like it, and sometimes I wouldn’t get the part coz I didn’t fit the bill. I was called to audition for the part and they felt I was perfect to play Avinash.
BollywoodWrap : How was your experience working with Neeraj Pandey ?
Muzamil Ibrahim : Obviously it was amazing, what can you say about it? I have been saying it from the very beginning. It’s a dream come true for any actor. He was a director in my bucket list to work with and I’m glad I got to work with him and Shivam Nair Sir also.
BollywoodWrap : Your role has really been really appreciated, it really stood out even though your screen time is a big debate everywhere, what are your thoughts?
Muzamil Ibrahim : Well, I knew I would stand out irrespective of the time limit. I was confident of that and I’m super confident about my screen presence.
It’s hard to steal my thunder. I’m glad people liked my character and showered it with so much love and praise. But it’s director’s call completely what he wants to do with it. My job is to execute it the best way possible.
BollywoodWrap : Is there a second season in pipeline? Or maybe a spin-off with Agent Avinash since the character became so popular with all its action.
Muzamil Ibrahim : Only Neeraj Sir will be able to answer that. Yes, a spin-off would be a cool idea actually. Avinash is a badass character. He’s quite an army in himself. Depends how well they shape the character in future.
BollywoodWrap : Who is your Favourite Bollywood Actor & Actress ?
Muzamil Ibrahim : I don’t have a favourite. I admire everyone’s work honestly. There is one thing I admire in one actor and something else in another. So many of them come to my mind.
BollywoodWrap : How do you prepare yourself for any role?
Muzamil Ibrahim : Depends on the requirement of the role. Dhokha required emotionally digging into the character of Zaid Ahmed, while as Avinash, it was more physical preparation for the role.
BollywoodWrap : What is your Full Day Diet Plan ?
Muzamil Ibrahim : I eat anything, carbs, fat, rotis, chawal.. name it. I don’t diet at all.
BollywoodWrap : What qualities does an actor need to sustain in B-Town ?
Muzamil Ibrahim : Perseverance and unflinching belief in himself. Your belief will be tested everyday, especially if you are not a star-kid . It’s a very tough and unfair fight. But you gotta keep punching.
BollywoodWrap : What are your Future Plans ?
Muzamil Ibrahim : Do more quality work, web-series have opened a lot of doors for actors waiting to do quality work. I was offered the biggest shows in TV with any kind of money I wanted, but I never did that because I didn’t come here for money. If I go to set each day just for money then I’ll be not satisfied with myself. I need to be creatively satisfied otherwise I won’t be happy.
BollywoodWrap : What message you will give to the aspiring actors and models ?
Muzamil Ibrahim : The battle is unreal if you are not a star-kid and it’s unfair most of the times. Our profession unfortunately is about being at the right place at the right time, it’s about chances. You really need to be lucky to make it.
Hard work pays but little. Acting is not like sports where one can determine the potential of an athletes by his performance. I’m not negating hard work from it. You need to keep trying but you need to be lucky too. That’s the complete truth. Star-kids don’t need luck, they just have to do their work. So this doesn’t apply to them.
